itc-100 ht

forums.thehomefoundry.org - Lun, 08/16/2021 - 11:59
im coating ceramic fibre (wool) with itc-100 ht. has anybody used it over rididizer? thats what i would like to do, but greg odenthal from itc mentioned they "didnt have good experience" with that, whatever it means.

my experiments, so far, dont really show any difference, but they were done on small pieces (like 4"x4") so maybe it would be different when doing the whole furnace. without the rigidizer the coating would probably break up, which is not too bad, it woud do its job anyway, but...

IC Hit & Miss engine coolant.

www.homemodelenginemachinist.com - Lun, 08/16/2021 - 09:08
I have just about completed the build of my 1913 Fairbanks Morse tractor. It has an H&M engine with an external radiator. The cylinder is a wet cast iron sleeve but the coolant jacket is steel. I am concerned about internal rust. What kind of coolant should one use that is an easy cleanup. Any suggestion is appreciated.

Bore stroke ratio

www.homemodelenginemachinist.com - Lun, 08/16/2021 - 08:10
What is the result of making a larger or smaller bore/stroke ratio. Presently I have an engine with 1.25 bore with 1.5 stroke. I want this engine to run slower. As is usually the case with these small engines power is not a large factor. We want it to run smoothly.

I can quite easily change stroke to 1.75 without too much trouble. The rule seems to be that the longer stroke will run slower. Engines I have built have a bore /stroke ratio of .5 to .9. The engine which presently runs the...

Gypsy Engine

www.homemodelenginemachinist.com - Lun, 08/16/2021 - 06:54
Hi
I was wondering if anyone would be interested in buying Gypsy castings? I had a set made for myself and the foundry has more made. I bought the prints from John Chenery about 4 years ago, and he said he will sell the prints but not the castings. I have tried to email John again, but he must have changed his email address. If anyone knows how to contact him I would appreciate it.

bubbles in wax casting

forums.thehomefoundry.org - Lun, 08/16/2021 - 02:54
I'm having problems with small bubbles appearing in the wax part I'm working on. Seems you can't use vacuum to cast wax parts. I've tried tapping the side of the mold to try to release the bubbles. I'm spraying the mold with mold release.

I'm heating the FF turquoise slowly and pouring it as soon as it's liquid. I'm not sure what temp it's at.

Due to the shape of the part, I'm pouring some wax into the bottom of the mold, installing the top half of the mold and then filling the mold. (I...

I have had the plans for a while, and have finally made a start on it. Delivery from the metal munger arrived. Started with the rear plate.
Cheers
